ABOUT THE MOSSAD

For years, the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, has been almost completely sealed off to the media. Now, for the first time since its founding, dozens of former operatives have agreed to be interviewed. Through personal testimonies and rare archival footage, we get an inside look at the operations that shaped the modern history of the Middle East, and perhaps the world. 

 

What are the ethical dilemmas that have arisen as a result of operations, such as the assassination of Nazis, Palestinian terrorists, as well as the heads of Hamas and Hezbollah, and most recently, Iranian nuclear scientists?

The complicated relationship between handler and asset, which often ends in tragedy, also leaves severe ethical questions looming over the behaviour of the world of espionage. In a manner not dissimilar to a Hollywood production, Mossad hands its operatives roles that require a significant amount of acting. Switching between cover stories, they attempt to return to their true identities back home; a mission which not everyone succeeds at.

 

The Mossad’s covert ties with governments and intelligence agencies around the world have yielded significant political and strategic results. From the peace treaty with Egypt, via the chaotic war in Lebanon, to repeated subversion of Iran’s nuclear program, these secretive plans have ended in success, but others have often ended in failure.

Inside The Mossad is a documentary film directed by Israeli director Duki Dror. It was produced by Zygote Films and based off the 2017 TV miniseries of the same name. The film interviews a dozen former Mossad agents. It uncovers their top-secret operations, their moral dilemmas and gives us a first-hand account into their work. This personal insight into the Mossad is unique; exposing failed missions and assassination attempts, whilst also showing the personal challenges each agent faced.
